les choristes

last night i watched a french film called "les choristes". it's the story about a man who takes a job at a school for troubled boys and teaches them to sing. i watched it in french, without the assistance of subtitles (in english OR french) or an english language track. i didn't understand all of it, but i found it to be charming nonetheless.

so...this film made me wonder...

what do we call people that sing in a choir?
or in a chorale?
and what is the difference?

"choirists" "singers" "carolers"

thoughts? additions?

The pro would agree-- choir members or singers. Or to be more specific, sopranos, second sopranos, altos, tenors, baritones and basses.
