fete du bruit

last night, contrary to my normal habits, i ventured out into the experience that is known as 'La Fête de la Musique'. in my humble opinion, it should be changed to 'La Fête du Bruit' (festival/celebration of noise).

to be fair, my impression of the evening may have been coloured by the fact that we were sitting near le jardin luxembourg and were receiving the audio stimuli from at least 5 different groups simultaneously. which resulted in, what i would deem, "noise pollution".

I'm french and I live in Paris.
You are right! It's fête de cacophonie.
C'est terrible de sortir à cet jour, je m'y suis renoncé depuis longtemps, je restais chez moi.

I really get a kick out of the fête de la musique, but we tend to a) know some of the people that play around town and b) we run into a lot of people we don't see very often these days, making it a fun reunion type thing.

but I don't think you have tons of musician friends, and I don't think one runs into people they know in Paris all that often, so...

This is a condition that is also known as "old-fogey-itis".

Although we avoided the everything-too-close-together city celebrations and listened to bongo drummers near our apartment ;)

I think next year I'm going to set up some powerful speakers and be a one man band on my balcony.

Make that a 'one, er, girl band'.

Je suis d' accord avec toi : la fete de la musique se deroule desormais sans musique mais juste avec du bruit : heureusement qu'il reste 364 jours par an pour apprecier et ecouter de la musique
